Ingredients for Traditional South African Crunchies:
 
• 1 ½ sticks butter unsalted
• 1 Tablespoon syrup or honey.  Lyle’s syrup is best
• 1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
• 2 cups oats
• 1 cup desiccated ground coconut
• 1 cup flour sieved
• 3/4 cup sugar
• pinch of salt
